So, as you already know, New Jersey and NY were hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy. I was lucky. Even though I live in a shore town, just 2 miles from the bay, the only damage to my house was the loss of some fence. Many others in the area lost their homes completely. I was without power for about 30 hours or so. Most of my friends in the area are still without power and are being told it may be another week or more. I just went to the local gas station and pulled up to a pump, many people throughout the state are waiting hours in lines for gas. A lot of people are getting loosing money from loss of work. While I am effected by this a little, I have other types of income to compensate and am doing OK*.
I got hit with the Sandy that pulls her hair back in a pony tail and sings Summer Nights.
Other people got hit with the Sandy that smokes a cigarette wears black leather, and sings One That I Want.
I write all this for two reasons:
1. To thank the powers the storm for dancing with me gently and my allies for protecting me and mine to whatever extent they did. Not to mention the lightning fast linemen who restored power, and all those that are doing the hard and dirty work of rescue and repair in this crisis.
2. To draw attention to the needs of others.
For instance, you should go read Deb’s latest blog to see how she and Jow have been effected. If you can donate to her, or purchase something from her shop, that would be awesome. I can personally attest to the effectiveness and beauty of her work.
Otherwise, please consider donating to the Red Cross, which is doing amazing work supplying shelter and food stations all around NJ.
* OK is getting by. There is still a financial hit, so please keep signing up for the course and for spell work
